Lisa got broadband activated yesterday, so today I have done the next best thing to Dual Booting her machine with Ubuntu and WinXP. Getting rid of WinXP completely is a big no-no (she won´t let me). She is very reluctant to let me set-up a dual boot system (due to number of times things go wrong when I tinker). So I installed VMWare Player, and downloaded the 5.10 Ubuntu release. Then a quick change of sources.list and a dist-upgrade later I have Dapper! Admittedly, it´s not as brisk as I would like, but it´s by no means crap. This means I can use Ubuntu at her house and have it all nice and familiar, and it just works nicer than Windows!
As far as I can tell, it is working fine, including net access and all that jazz. Next stop, trying Xubuntu on the laptop. which is really old!

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it. It’s just old.
