To-Do List

There have been several times over the last few weeks that I have thought, “I’ll have to blog about that”, and then either forgotten, or not had time (and therefore the idea has dwindled). Here is what I can currently remember of things on my blog to-do list (in no particular priority order):

  1. Get posting by e-mail working so that I can blog from my phone. Most of the things I mentioned above were thought of while out and about (including a particularly witty post involving women in changing rooms, but the moment has passed now). It occurred to me while I was inputted the text on my phone that a) I hadn’t set up e-mail on my phone and b) I hadn’t set up blogging by e-mail. I thought both would be fairly straightforward, but alas, all I got from the default wordpress facility was gibberish. I have installed the Postie plugin, which appears to be quite old but highly recommended. It also looks complicated to configure. We shall see.
  2. Buy a house. Lisa & I want our own place. Enough said really.
  3. Do a fresh install on the laptop. Things seem to be a little Clunky at the moment, so I would like to set aside a day (I’m bound to break something!) to do this.
  4. Get my deaktop machine working again. I think it’s got some dodgy RAM in it, and I robbed the graphics card out for Lisa’s Mum’s machine (so she can run flightgear) So I need to sort both of these out before I can rescue some files from the hard drive (not vital, but desired) and convert the box into a test for Mythbuntu. Which leads me onto 5…
  5. The Project. Capital T, Capital P. I want to build a machine. Lisa & I are planning on buying a house (see 2). Between us we watch a lot of telly. And DVD’s. And media that I have backed up on my 2 computers that I currently convert to MPEG-2, burn to DVD and watch. I want to build a low power machine, that looks like a normal set top box. It must have a DVD drive and a Hard Drive and a DVB-T tuner. The ability to record from this tuner is optional, but my initial reading suggests I’ll get this anyway :) . It must play Region 1 and Region 2 DVD’s. It must play all the backed up stuff (mostly DivX or Xvid). It must play it all through the TV. I would like it to play all the music (with Album Art etc, obviously) I have also. I must be able to access it (via ssh) to drop new media onto the hard drive (or rotate the media). I want to be able to control the system by Remote control. In short, I want a small, quiet PC with MythTV on it. I want to build it. I plan on researching this, and blogging about my progress, which should have the dual purpose of giving me a hobby again, and reason to blog things :)
