Today, I have the happiness. I now have a DVD player in the living room that can play Multi-region DVD’s, as well as XVID/DIVX encoded videos. (In case anyone is interested, it is a Cyberhome DVD401 bought from Amazon.co.uk for the staggering sum of £17.99 + postage & packaging a couple of years back).
This means I can play my Cosby Show DVD’s (STILL only available in Region 1!) as well as my, erm, Recorded (from MythTV, obviously) media. If it had a hard drive I could install MythTV on, it would be perfect, but it will do as a stepping stone while I work on building a silent front end for the living room.

One thing you might be interested in, that I recently found out about, is the Hauppauge Media MVP. It’s a little settop box which boots over the network and plays your music, videos and pictures. Where it gets interesting is that there is a MythTV frontend for it (http://www.mvpmc.org/).
You can pick one up for about £30 off ebay. It’s completely silent as it has no moving parts. And it has a remote control by default. Oh, and because it boots off the network, you don’t need to flash in the new OS, you just move it to the relevant place on the network
