It's a little settop box which boots over the network and plays your music, videos and pictures. Where it gets interesting is that there is a MythTV frontend for it (http://www.mvpmc.org/). You can pick one up for about £30 off ebay. It's completely silent as it has no moving parts. And it has a remote control by default.
