As some folks know, Lisa’s operation is tomorrow. She’s going to be in hospital for a few days, and at home on bed rest for at least a couple of weeks, probably more. I thought it would be a nice thought if people wanted to send her messages, to all do it in the same place. I will give Lisa the website address tomorrow when she comes round, and is starting to feel a bit lonely. I’m sure it will cheer her up if she gets messages from people.

“Are you Kidding Me?”.

I put the ring on her finger, and then she said Yes!

Note: This caused lots of people to scrabble for Cameras, as only one person there knew what I was planning (my mum and dad knew what I was going to do, but weren’t there at the time). Therefore I should hopefully get e-mailed some photos over the next week or so.

Top grade student celebrates

A FORMER Howden Senior School pupil is celebrating after achieving the highest A level grades at John Leggott College, Scunthorpe.

Lisa Brooks (18) of Dunhill Road, Goole, came top of the 720-strong class with four A grades in her A levels and two As at AS level.

The grades, equivalent to five A level grade As, landed Lisa a place at Durham University to study Psychology.
Lisa told the Courier: “I was absolutely thrilled – I just couldn’t stop crying! I was expecting anything from an A and two Bs – the grades I needed for my university place – upwards. It is mostly just hard work paying off. I am a bit of a perfectionist and try my hardest in everything I do – encouraged by my mum.”

Lisa, whose grades make her one of the top students in the country, was rejected by Oxford University but said that their loss is her gain. She added: “I am quite happy now that I did not get into Oxford as I think I will have more fun at Durham! I am really looking forward to starting university.”

Lisa hopes to stay on in higher education to do a PhD in psychology and eventually plans to find a job related to the subject. Her grades included A grades in A level biology, chemistry, general studies and psychology and AS level mathematics and general studies. John Leggott College principal David Linnell said: “Lisa is an outstanding student who has done superbly well in her examinations. She has shown amazing potential in each of her subjects and unquestionably has the ability to get a top degree.”

The only thing that is concerning me (given how great the outfit is looking) is finding some boots. I’m a little reluctant to blow a huge wad of cash on some ‘authentic‘ ones, but I’m struggling to find alternatives.

I will take photos of the outfit as it comes together.

Only six weeks until I graduate, although there are still 4, two-hour demons standing between myself and my degree. At the moment I genuinely feel like I’d do just as well if I didn’t show up, but with a little time and the right encouragement from Steve (who is also very lonely and depressed atm since we have’t seen each other in 11 days), I might get my 2:1.

On the upside, I passed my driving test yesterday. Apologies to anyone who knows me and is offended that I didn’t tell you about it beforehand. I was VERY nervous and didn’t need the pressure of everyone wishing me luck etc. But I passed first time!!! Just need a car now……

My most sincere apologies and gratitude must however be sent to Stephen, I didn’t even tell him I had booked the test and he was rather shocked when I delivered the news. I’m very sorry for keeping it from you sweetheart, I love you more than anything and will never keep anything from you ever again, no matter how trivial! Also big thank yous for letting me drive Jemima while she was still with us (God rest her soul), the practice I got in did wonders for my confidence, even if I did hate having you telling me what to do! Anyway, I just wanted to tell the whole world (well, let’s face it, probably my mum, Auntie Sue, and Jage), that I love you, you are the bestest boyfriend ever and I can’t wait to see you!!!
